Podgórze District - Schindler's List

Podgorze district, situated on the right bank of the Vistula River, was an unwilling witness to the annihilation of Krakow Jews. In 1941 Nazi Germans established there a ghetto for all Krakow Jews. Sixty-five thousand Jewish citizens from Krakow were murdered during the Holocaust and only a small percentage survived WWII.

In 1993 Steven Spielberg made a film based on the story of a heroic act of salvation of over 1000 Krakow Jews by a German entrepreneur Oscar Schindler. The film was an eye opener for the world and presented the full picture of the atrocities of WWII.
